Raining Data develops an exceptionally high performing and easy to use database management system that runs on a wide variety of hardware and operating system platforms. Although historically sold into the small-to-medium business market, the scalability of the database allows an application to remain efficient from one to thousands of users without modification. In addition, a series of complementary layered products is provided through the extensive use of business alliance partners. Together, the products and services offered by Raining Data provide the platform on which more than 4,000 business applications are created. The Raining Data distribution channel is able to provide ready made or custom applications into all major business segments. The combined software, hardware and services worldwide annual revenue for the Pick/MultiValue-market is estimated to be more than $3 billion. Raining Data Background Over 3 Decades The Pick/MultiValue data base management system was conceived over three decades ago and has withstood the test of time as one of the most robust information management environments ever developed. In 1965, as part of a research and development project for the U.S. Army, engineers at TRW Corp. developed a software program called the Generalized Information Retrieval Language and System. Shortly after the concept was conceived, Dick Pick (1938-1994) met Don Nelson and soon they sought to commercialize Nelson's ideas to capitalize on what both saw as a coming information technology revolution. Value Added In 1972, Pick started his own company, called Pick Systems, and formed one of the industry's first commercial software/hardware alliances with Microdata Corp. This partnership proved to be a forerunner, as the two companies offered customers what is now taken for granted extensive reseller network and application bundling that combined the best available hardware, DBMS and application software in an affordable value-added package. The Pick/MultiValue database has been extended over the years, keeping pace with changes in the industry, while retaining the unique characteristics that make it so attractive as a development and user environment. D3 In the late 1980s, Pick Systems introduced a version of its DBMS compatible with the Unix operating system. Since then, the company has introduced an SQL/ODBC-compliant product called D3. With the release of D3 for Windows NT/2000 and Windows 95/98, the company continued to advance the Pick standard. Today, Raining Data brings to market the most sophisticated environment available for developing client/server and Web-enabled applications.
FlashCONNECT® enables FlashBASIC programmers to quickly implement a Web browser interface for Internet, intranet and extranet applications. The rich FlashCONNECT API facilitates easy integration of FlashBASIC applications with Web pages via a common gateway interface (CGI) or ISAPI interface. The FlashCONNECT 2.1 release provides seamless integration across the entire D3 product line. Users can connect any mix of D3 database servers to single or multiple Web servers. The core concept of FlashCONNECT is the separation of content, logic, and presentation layer for ease of and code reuse. FlashCONNECT-enabled applications can use templates designed in any HTML page design program. Already existing FlashBASIC business rules logic may be preserved and integrated into FlashCONNECT projects. Raining Data also has the mv.BASE and mv.ENTERPRISE database environments under it's control. For more information, contact TRG, your Raining Data reseller, at 949-296-8380 or asktrg@picktrg.com. |
